We all know the feeling.
Mid-August rolls around and you start panicking.
You think back over the past two months that have been summer…and forward to the few weeks left, and realize you haven’t done nearly as much as you would have liked to.
All those major events slipping away…the days getting shorter…it’s tragic really.
They don’t say “save the best for last” for nothin…
So get your pen…or your calendar or phone or whatever works…
There’s still some events that you don’t want to miss coming up this month!
1- Cornwall Waterfest – August 13th
You may be a little disappointed when you realize there’s no actual dragons, but the dragon boats are still pretty cool too!
Head down to Lock 19/the Old Cornwall Canal at the corner of Power Dam Drive and Second Street West and join in on the fun – watch locals compete in the races, enjoy some live entertainment, and shop around some local vendors!
2- Beyond 21 Food Fest – Saturday, August 20th
Because who doesn’t love food?
Plus, calories don’t count when it’s for a good cause…at least I hope not…
Join the rest of the city in welcoming over 18 food trucks, and multiple local food and dry vendors on Pitt Street between First and Third from 10am to 8pm!
Beyond 21 supports developmentally challenged young adults 21 years of age and older, and their families in the Cornwall and surrounding area – a wonderful cause, and a wonderful event!
3- Upper Canada Village Food Lover’s Field Days
Saturday August 20th – Sunday August 21st
Can you tell we like our food?
If Upper Canada Village wasn’t awesome enough as is, throw this event in to the mix and you’ve got a winner!
Food lovers will have a “field day” shopping, dining and sampling local and traditional cuisine in the historic Village setting. It also showcases the region’s original 100-mile diet, and you can sample 19th century fare cooked up using old recipes on the wood stoves and hearths of the Village’s period kitchens, and savour heirloom harvest tastings picked fresh from the Village’s own gardens.
There’s also a cooking competition. And who doesn’t love cooking competitions? (Me, because I wish I could cook like that, but it’s so awesome I’m still excited for it) So go.
4- Cornwall MusicFest – August 20th
Food, live music, what more do you need?
Join in on the first ever MusicFest – Cornwall’s next big thing – and witness outstanding performances featuring some of the Country’s top recording artists!
After all, it’s Cornwall’s largest outdoor summer music concert, and will feature headliners like:
The Paul Deslauriers Band
Brad Roberts of the Crash Test Dummies
Sean McCann of Great Big Sea
One of These Nights – Eagles Tribute Band
So if that’s not convincing enough…just go to the NavCentre August 20th at 2pm and see for yourself!
5- Cornwall Triathlon
Saturday August 27th – Sunday August 28th
We all know we have some super talented people throughout Cornwall and SDG, and they aren’t shy to show it!
So come support them at the annual Cornwall Triathlon…or join in for yourself!
6- Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival – Sunday August 28th
Finally a place where you don’t have to worry about having garlic breath….because everyone else will!
Even if you’re not a garlic fan, don’t worry, cause there’s lots of other things going on!
From local garlic and veggie growers, to live entertainment, to all the vendors you can think of, Lamoureux Park is going to be busy and bustling in the best way possible!
