If the news of the UCDSB mass school closures didn’t shock you enough, the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is proposing additional school closures right here in Cornwall.
According to a recent report that was approved last night – they would be looking at the following changes:
A new St.Joe’s Secondary School would be built while closing the current one.
- Bishop Macdonell and St. Peter’s would take students from Immaculate Conception
- A new JK-6 school would be built on the Sacred Heart site or somewhere nearby
This school would take those from St. Columban’s and Sacred Heart
- Bishop Macdonell and St. Anne would be converted in to a JK-6 school
Grade 7 and 8 students would go to a newly-built St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School.
Like the public board empty spaces are the root cause and public consultation will be planned soon for parents to have their say.
