The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers that they will be keeping a close eye on the major highways in the region (Highway 417/Queensway, Highway 416, Highway 401 and Highway 7, Highway 138, Highway 15) over the long weekend.
The Victoria Day long weekend is the start of the Summer driving season. Officers will be looking for texting drivers, people talking on a non-hands-free device, impaired drivers and speeders.
They will also be looking for vehicles that are carrying trailers, recreational vehicles and boats to insure that they are secured safely to the vehicle. Also, they will be keeping an eye on drivers who don’t obey the ‘Move Over Law‘.
The OPP will also be patrolling various waterways and off-road trails all Victoria Day long weekend.
If you are travelling this weekend, plan ahead. Take your time, drive safely and of course, have fun.
